Restoration of metal finds in the State Museum for Prehistory in Halle (Saale), 2011
During the excavations in the ICE route Halle / Leipzig-Erfurt project, numerous metal finds from various time periods came to light. Most of them were restored immediately afterwards.
The following measures were carried out:

Partial removal of the corrosion using a scalpel blade and fiberglass pen

Grinding of the corrosion crusts with diamond burs (iron)

Blasting with glass beads (1-50) or corundum (120) (iron)

Bonding / fixing with Paraloid B 72 or Araldite 2020

Preservation with Paraloid B 72 in ethyl acetate, then with Cosmoloid H 80 in special benzine
